Gundam Build Fighters is over! Masami Obari gives thanks to Build Fighters, saying he was happy and proud to one of the show’s staff members! He also drew this awesome image to celebrate the end!
Question with 1 note
stavekoff asked: Did Obari do work on Transformers Robots in Disguise (the 90s one) and Transformers Armada?
I’m afraid not, Obari’s only involvement with Transformers goes back to the G1 era. He worked on a few episodes very early on in season 1, he was still very young so it’s not easily seen in the animation style as to what he worked on. He says on Twitter that one of the first transformation scenes for Convoy/Optimus was his work. He also says he had a hand in designing one of the early Decepticon ships.
His other involvement with G1 is supposedly working on Call of the Primitives. There you can see a more Obari style of animation. Other than that, there is the popular DVD cover of Optimus and Megatron drawn by Obari.

For those that remember the Dai Mazinger concept image (left), Obari recently showed us what one of the rough designs for Mazinger looked like (right).
For those that don’t know, Dai Mazinger was a planned AIC OVA to be directed by Toshihiro Hirano with Masmi Obari mecha designs back in the late 1980s. It would have been their 3rd team up after working on Fight! Iczer 1! and Dangaioh together in the past. Due to licensing issues with Toei, the OVA never went past the concept stage.
